Summary: VersaCheck Gold 2008
Comment: I have used previous versions and have liked the program for printing checks from Quicken. The 2008 version however has been seriously crippled by requiring validation codes for proprietary paper and ink. This unfortunately is an ender for me and I will be looking for a replacement. I cannot recommend this program with the silly validations.

Summary: Don't water your time or money
Comment: Don't waste your time or money on this product. I have used their products for years, but this version completely stinks. Their customer service is horrific and clueless.
They lock you into purchasing "approved" products from them. If that is the case then the software should be free!! I have used standard toner and check paper for years without a single issue at any bank.
The whole idea here is to save on purchasing multiple check stock for multiple accounts, now the additional cost of approved paper etc, there are no cost or time savings.

Summary: Read the fine print
Comment: It has printed checks with no problems, though it did state that it flawlessly works with Quicken. It doesn't. You have to print checks separately and then use in the Quicken program. It will not print them from Quicken.
Major irritation you can only print so many checks and it asks for a new authorization code. Basically you have to buy their product to use their product. Wouldn't be a problem except everyone around here quit selling their paper. Now I have to pay shipping to get the paper which negates the purpose of buying a check writing software... to save money! I will be buying a new program... cheaper in the long run.

Comment: The software is far too complex for what it does, but the most significant issue is its intentionally misleading displays that cause you to believe, after the fact, that you need to purchase one of their printers and their check stock. Both of which are over priced. After nearly a half day of nonsensical conversation with customer service, it was learned that neither are necessary and that you can click past the registration screens without losing data.

Summary: Better Than the Alternative-- Barely
Comment: I have very fond memories of my first Versacheck program. You had the program, you had the check paper, you designed your checks, you printed them. Then we changed computers, lost the usage key and decided to upgrade so our bookkeeper could print directly from Quickbooks. At that time the only program available locally was a competitor. After a couple of years I had problems and if you search my reviews you can find my experience with the competitors' customer's service.
Now I'm back and the only real advantage I see if that I haven't had to use customer service yet.
Easy to set up, it does print directly from Quickbooks Pro. It does not require that anyone use the paper from Versa check, although the program indicates that if you don't use their magnetic ink and their check stock that they do not guarantee some level of support. Whether or not you are using their paper involves the entry of an authorization number that comes with the check paper and ink. I was leary of ink cartridge compatibility problems-- oh, yes, I've been around that barn before!-- so I took them up on their "free (inkjet) printer with purchase" offer thinking I would keep the printer dedicated to check use. I don't have it set up yet but I'm working on getting my bookkeeper to accept the idea--
