Barbecue (BBQ) at the beach
Barbecuing is one of the things penangites love to do in their free time since there are a lot of beaches in Penang.
One of the most common public beach that they use is the one next to the Crown Jewel Hotel (formerly known as Crown Prince).It’s not that hard to have a berbecue.
You can get one of those disposable pits at the supermarkets here.It will probably cost you less than RM 30 ( around USD 8).
Also,you would need some charcoals and fire starters.You can get the charcoals at the shops selling groceries along the road.One bag of charcoals usually go for RM3-4 (around USD 1).Fire starters will probably cost you less than RM2 (around USD 0.60) ,depending on where you bought it.
For food,you can do your shopping either at the groceries section of the various shopping malls or the morning markets.There’s Cold Storage in Gurney Plaza and Giant in Penang Plaza and Prangin Mall.
Get some marinated chicken wings,sausages,crab sticks,marshmallows,corns,meatballs,fishballs and whatever you want to barbecue.Remember to get some butter and a brush.And also drinks and ice.You can buy the ice at the 7-Elevens outlets.It goes for RM 1.50 (around USD 0.40).You also need to get some paper plates and cups.And get some sticks as shown in the above picture so that you can hold your food together.
You don’t really need skewers as the sticks are enough.
Depending on how much food you bought,the total cost will probably be around RM70-RM80 (around USD 20).
